Dr. Slusher received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1965.
His research in optical and quantum physics was at Bell Laboratories from 1965 to 2007. He directed
a research department there in optical, quantum and device physics from 1977 through 2005. He is
currently a Principal Research Scientist at the Georgia Tech Research Institute.
Dr. Slusher received the 1995 Arthur Schawlow Prize in laser spectroscopy from the American
Physical Society and the 2006 Max Born Award from the Optical Society of America. His present
research interests include trapped ion arrays formed using silicon VLSI fabrication techniques.
